Frankie Avalon

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania September 18th. Frankie’s singing talents were recognized early and his first song “De De Dinah” and later. “Venus” became the first of many smash hits of the era. His talents were in demand as he appeared on television programs hosted by Perry Como, Ed Sullivan, and Dick Clark. His list of accomplishments grew as he performed in over thirty movies including “The Alamo,” “Voyage to the bottom of the Sea,” “Grease,” the popular “60’s” beach movies, and reuniting in 1987 with Annette Funicello for “Back to the Beach.”

“It seems like every young kid in Philadelphia wanted to be a singer,” recalls Frankie. “I started as a musician… a trumpet player in the beginning. But, when I picked up the paper one day and read about Jimmy Darren, who was from my own neigborhood and school, making a successful career for himself, I decided that I could do it just as well.”

Frankie’s starring roles in the highly successful “Beach Party” film series, are perhaps quickest to recall. They include “Beach Party,” “Muscle Beach Party,” “Beach Blanket Bingo,” Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine,” “Bikini Beach,” and “How to Stuff a Wild Bikini.” Frankie appeared in a cameo role in the very successful movie, “Grease” where he sang “Beauty School Dropout” and this cameo was considered one of the highlights of the movie. He is currently one of the busiest nightclub performers in the country, playing the nations’ finest supperclubs, and headlining top Los Vegas Hotel Mainrooms. His motion picture career has already spanned some thirty fillms.

Like many show business personalities, Frankie is an avid golfer, spending most of his non-working hours on the fairways and putting greens.

Concerts and club dates have taken him to the entertainment meccas of the states as well as the far reaches of the world and even behind the Iron Curtain with his apperance at the International Festival of Stars in Romania. His endeavors have not been limited to entertainment. In 1992 he became the National Ambassador for the National Arthritis foundation, in 1993 and 1994 he hosted the New York TV Center Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon, and he began his own manufacturing and distribution of health products as President and CEO of Frankie Avalon Products Incorporated appearing on the Home Shopping Network monthly.
